This seminar will bring a diverse team of experienced trainers to address multiple facets of skills needed for vehicle and building searches in particular. Handlers will be challenged to work in close-quarters and on leash with their dogs to illustrate and better understand their influence on their dogs. The course will address how to “dance” with your dog when working on leash, how to present productive odor areas without cueing, how to develop and train a systematic search pattern, how to build independence and working “through the leash,” reward presentation, verbal vs. physical cues, and how to recognize and articulate all aspects of your dog’s changes of behavior. Techniques learned in the close-quarters environment will then be extrapolated to off leash larger area searches.
