About Simon Prins:
Simon Prins is known for introducing operant conditioning to the Police K9 training world. For the last 25 years, he has skillfully trained dogs for special operation missions and has mastered the art of using robotics and sensors with dogs to perform such tasks successfully. He has titled and trained countless dogs and trainers from special units across the globe, and firmly believes that science can significantly improve our work with animals. Simon Prins is a speaker, author, innovator, animal trainer and behaviorist, and is currently working with the Netherlands Police Agency.
He started working with hunting dogs in 1989. When he joined the police force, he became one of the youngest patrol dog handlers on the force. In 1996 he was asked to set up a special K9 R&D project. Working with radio guided camera dogs was one of the many topics of this program.
In the years that followed, he started a variety of specialized K9 programs including hard surface tracking, laser guided attack dogs, and detection dogs for special operations. In 2002, he selected and trained 16 dogs and handlers to start search and rescue operations. In 2006, he began experimenting with training dogs using electronics and successfully deployed radio directed canines that were equipped with sensors and small robotics into active operations. During these years, his work included the development of training protocols and collection of key data that would then further training decisions. Simon is convinced that a training process that involves following protocols based on operant conditioning, and the collection and analysis of data, results in educated trainers and is a critical key to success.
